A newly married couple had an unexpected gatecrasher when Theresa May showed up at their waterside wedding. But the prime minister, who has been busting out her best moves all summer in an effort to strengthen UK’s trading links with Africa, just couldn’t quite manage to get the impromptu meeting to go smoothly. Jason and Michelle Dight, had just exchanged their vows at the yacht haven in Cowes, Isle of Wight, and were having photos taken in the marina when Mrs May, flanked by security, turned-up by boat at the Royal Yacht Squadron.

They invited her to take some photos with them, but she hesitated at where she should stand in the picture should be.

An astounded Michelle, 32, said: ‘We decided to pose for photos near the jetty. We saw this great big motor cruiser. It pulled up at the jetty and someone said “It’s Theresa May.” ‘We were both saying, “no way”. As she was coming up the jetty, we asked the security staff if she would pose for pictures with us.’ Mrs May confessed she was ‘not really dressed for the occasion’.
