A teenage girl who smuggled drugs into prison for her lover has walked free because of her pregnancy. Chantelle Revie, 19, was caught on CCTV putting £1,350 worth of drugs into Daniel Hives’, 22, tracksuit bottoms at Forest Bank prison in Salford, Greater Manchester.
Guards saw the switch being made on CCTV and recovered 14 separate wraps of cannabis on July 9 last year.
Revie was arrested and subsequently released after a police investigation.
Almost a year after the offence she was summoned to Manchester Crown Court, facing jail for bringing a prohibited article into a prison.
But her defence lawyer noted she had become pregnant with Hives baby and is due to give birth in March next year.
Considering her sentence, Judge Martin Walsh admitted there was an “unacceptable and inordinate delay in bringing these proceedings to justice”.
Revie was facing jail alongside her close pal Shelby Parkinson, who tapped on Hives’ tracksuit pocket to make sure the drugs were secure.
The pair both pleaded guilty.
The pair hugged each other in the dock as they escaped with a six months suspended jail sentence.
Hives has been freed since the incident.
Revie was also ordered to undertake 30 days of rehabilitation activity and Parkinson will complete 160 hours of unpaid work.
