'Why Uche Jombo, Mercy Aigbe didn’t attend my movie premiere' – Dayo AmusaIt came as a surprise when Mercy Aigbe, Uche Jombo and Desmond Elliot were not present at the recent premiere of Dayo Amusa’s movie, That Which Binds Us, despite playing lead roles in it.

Being a movie premiere, it was expected that some of the lead characters would be available to add glamour to it.

But while speaking with Sunday Scoop, Amusa said they had informed her of their tight schedules. She also said she didn’t hold a premiere but gathered friends together to introduce the movie to the cinema.

Amusa stated, “I didn’t do a movie premiere; it was just a cinema opening. The other actors (Mercy Aigbe, Uche Jombo and Desmond Elliot) couldn’t make it due to their tight schedules.

I understood that and I didn’t take it to heart. After that Friday, they were in cinemas for the ‘meet and greet’ sessions with fans. If you go through my Instagram page, you will see their photos. But on Friday when the movie went to the cinema, they had other commitments.”

Explaining why she shot an English movie, the ‘Yoruba’ actress insisted that she didn’t like to be stereotyped.

She said, “I want to believe that there is room for improvement in everyone’s life at every point. Also, I am an actress; not a Yoruba actress. Although I got my recognition from the Yoruba sector of Nollywood, it doesn’t make me a Yoruba actor. This is not even my first English movie; I produced Pathetic last year.”

Amusa said there were still plans to release a song and possibly a movie before the year runs out. “While I believe I still can do more, I think I have done well as a musician too. But for me, acting remains my first choice,” she added.
