Cristiano Ronaldo paid tribute to former boss Sir Alex Ferguson after meeting up with him following Juventus’s win over Manchester United last night.
The Portuguese goal machine, 33, was given a hero’s welcome at Old Trafford after a trophy-laden six-years at the club.
And sharing a photo of himself with Fergie, Ronaldo hailed the 76-year-old, who helped him on the path to stardom.
He tweeted: “A great coach and above all a wonderful man.
“Taught me so many things inside and outside the pitch. Great to see you in good shape, Boss!”
Ronaldo won the first of his five Ballons d’Or in 2008 before leaving for Real Madrid the following year.
After four European triumphs at the Bernabeu, he headed for Turin to try to help the Italians break their recent drought.
His deflected cross led to Paulo Dybala’s winner – but United fans did not hold it against him as they gave him a rousing ovation.
One even charged on to the field before Ronaldo posed for a selfie as stewards led the interloper away.
The grateful ace commented: “An important victory in a very emotional match for me.
“It was great playing at Old Trafford again. Thanks to all the fans for the reception and support.”
Jose Mourinho was also quick to praise Ronaldo after a poor United performance – using him as an example to show the difference between the teams.
He told BT Sport: “In the other side was huge quality and sometimes when we speak about quality sometimes people look for Cristiano, (Paulo) Dybala, (Miralem) Pjanic.
“But in a top team you have to look to (Giorgio) Chiellini, (Leonardo) Bonucci and I think Juventus is this kind of team that when the are in front is very, very difficult to concede a goal.
“I think our attacking players, things were not coming, but everybody tried, everybody was strong mentally to try until the end. Juventus felt it and instead of the control they had in the first half, in the second half they defended.”
