Eddie Howe is excited about a possible EFL Cup semi-final spot but wants Bournemouth to now focus on Manchester United on Saturday. Howe’s side secured their place in the last eight of the Carabao Cup for the third time in five seasons by scraping past Championship side Norwich on Tuesday 3-2.
The Cherries, who have never reached the final four of a major cup competition, will discover their quarter-final opponents when the draw is made on Wednesday evening.
After League Cup quarter-final defeats to Liverpool during the 2014-15 campaign and Chelsea last season, Cherries boss Howe is hopeful of progressing at least one stage further, although he is keen to switch the focus to the United game this weekend back in the Premier League.
“That would be really nice for us. I don’t know how many times we’ve made the quarter-finals, the years seem to blur into each other,” he said.
“We’ve made this step and now we want to try and go one more. The motivation is huge, the semi-final is a different level.”
He added: “I think it’s very important we focus on the next challenge which is just around the corner and it’s a big one in Manchester United.”
