Feeling like giving your feet some TLC but not in the mood to step out of the house? Now you’re wondering if your chipped nail polish and slightly cracked heels will get you through another week. What if we told you you can actually do your pedicure at home, by yourself?
Yes! It’s totally doable. You’ll just need the following things:
- Nail polish remover
- Epsom salt
- Foot file or pumice stone
- Foot scrub
- Nail file
- Nail clippers
- Buffer
- Base and top coat
- Moisturizer
- Towel
Ready? Let’s get into it.
Step 1 – Out With The Old
Using a piece of cotton wool and some nail polish remover, wipe your nails clean of all nail polish.
Step 2 – Give Your Feet A Spa Treatment
Fill a tub with lukewarm water, add some epsom salt and soak your feet in it for fifteen minutes. You can also add a few drops of tea tree oil to kill bacteria.
Step 3 – Exfoliate
These foot files make it so easy to do your pedicure at home. They really help to get rid of old dead skin. Grab one and gently run it across your heels and soles of your feet. Alternatively, you can use a pumice stone. Next, using your fingers and some foot scrub, exfoliate your feet, all the way to your toes.
Step 4 – Clip, File And Buff
Using a nail clipper, cut your nails to your desired length and file around the edges to shapen it. Next using a buffer, smoothen the surface of your nails to prepare it for nail polish.
Step 5 – Moisturize
Massage a light weight lotion into your feet to replenish moisture, and some cuticle oil to the skin around your nails.
Step 6
Wipe the surface of each nail with a nail polish remover to get rid of oil and excess moisture from your nails.
Step 7 – Get Painting
Start by applying a thin coat of base polish on your nails, leave for a few seconds to dry. Next, apply one coat of your favourite nail polish. Be sure to apply it thinly and evenly to get a smooth finish, let it dry and apply a second coat. It’s important to let your nails dry properly so be patient.
Finish with a clear top coat to make your nails glossy and prevent it from chipping. let it dry for at least thirty minutes before wearing your sandals to prevent smudging.
Voila! That wasn’t difficult right? And now that you know you can do your pedicure at home, we bet you’re wondering why you’ve been going to nail salons all these years. Ready to paint your fingernails too? These nail polish colours look amazing on dark skin.
