A lot of people think that locs do not really need to be cared for…That it’s an option to consider when you are tired of caring for your hair. But contrary to popular opinion, locs need to be taken care of just as you would your normal natural hair.
If you’ve recently ‘locked’ your hair, and you’re not sure how to maintain it. These tips will help you get started on caring for your locs easily.
Dry Hair Properly After Washing
If you have really long locs, it could take a while for it to dry especially if you plan to air dry. Alternatively, feel free to use a blow dryer on low setting. If you don’t allow your dreads to dry properly, it could begin to smell funky and you don’t want that. Also, always wait until the hair is dry before you apply any product.
Palm Roll Your locs
Palm rolling is a great way to reshape your locs if it starts looking flat. But be sure to roll in the same direction and on damp hair. Make sure not to palm roll on dry hair.
Protect Your locs Before Going To Sleep
Your locs require just as much care as normal natural hair does. Sleeping with a satin scarf will keep the hair moisturized and in great condition.
Moisturize Your locs
Yeah, your locs need moisture too. Using a spray bottle, spritz your locks lightly with water and massage a little oil into them. You can do this once a week.
Wash Your Hair Regularly
Many people think that locs do not need to be washed regularly but that’s not true. It’s actually easier for dirt and oil to be trapped in your locks. So you should wash every week or every other week to keep your scalp clean and your locs healthy.
Wax Your Roots
Wax comes in handy when the hair at the root of your locs begin to loosen. But be sure not to overuse it, only apply enough to hold the hair together.
