A young couple who planned to travel the world died side-by-side “like Romeo and Juliet” in bed after a double drug overdose.
Michelle Avila, 23, and her boyfriend Christian Kent, 20, went out to a party but “weren’t drinking much” because they were both ill, according to reports.
They came home about 12.30am and went to bed but the next day Michelle’s family discovered them both dead in the young woman’s childhood bed.
The pair, from Newport Beach in Orange County, California, both had colds and had been taking antibiotics but her family believe they died from an opiate overdose – a tragic problem that is becoming more prevalent in the affluent beach community.
Michelle was a part-time model and student and aspired to be a journalist. Her beau Christian was studying in San Diego.
Michelle’s parents said she didn’t “party too much”, choosing instead to spend her time with Christian and their close group of friends in the area.
After they came back from the party on October 14, Michelle said goodnight to her mum Adriana and got her clothes out for her 6am shift at a Newport Beach coffee shop where she worked.
When Adriana came home from work at 4pm that day, she found the couple dead in bed.
Michelle’s dad Paulo told the Coast Report Online: “Two beautiful kids. It was like Romeo and Juliet. “They both died and they were hugging each other.”
Paulo said that, even though toxicology reports will take some time, he is certain the young couple died from a drugs overdose.
