Blackheads are tiny bumps on the surface of the skin. They form when a hair follicle becomes clogged with sebum, and dead skin cells. When the skin above the bump opens, air enters in and causes oxidation to take place. The oxidation causes the bump to go black, and that’s why they are called blackheads.
We’re not quite sure which is more annoying, blackheads that hide underneath your skin and are quite difficult to remove. Or pimples that pose on the surface of your skin for all the world to see. What we are sure of is that we want clear skin and we won’t rest (neither will our food ingredients apparently) until we achieve it.
So on today’s episode of ‘favourite foods for a flawless face‘ (yep, totally just made that up), we’re featuring egg face masks. Eggs are packed with proteins and astringent properties that help to shrink the pores and tighten your skin. And you can instantly get rid of blackheads using a homemade egg peel-off mask. It’s really simple and all that’s required is an egg and some tissue paper.
Now let’s break down this egg mask for you (See what we did there?)
Using your fingers or brush, apply a layer of egg white to freshly washed face and place some tissue paper (single ply) on top of the egg white. Next, paint another layer of egg white on the tissue paper to keep it in place and follow that up with some more tissue paper. Then place the final layer of egg white on the tissue and leave to dry and harden.
Here’s a video by Girl vs Curl, showing the entire process
For best results, make sure the mask dries completely before taking it off. And when taking out the egg face mask, peel it off gradually to avoid bruising your skin. One of the really great things about the egg face mask is how well it tightens your pores. So your skin will feel tight when you take it off but it’s completely normal. But be sure to wash your face afterwards and follow up with a moisturizer.
To get the most out of this egg face mask, you can steam your face first to open up your pores and make the mask more effective.
