A dad-of-four has revealed he lived as a recluse for 10 years due to the enormous 5.3kg tumour on his face. The man, named only as Majeed N, said its removal felt ‘like a second birth’. The 45-year-old admitted he hardly left his home in Palakkad, India, as he was so ashamed of his deformity.
But surgeons were able to change Majeed’s life by removing the enormous tumour during a painstaking 12-hour facelift. His lower jaw had to be reconstructed using a bone taken from his leg, drastically changing his appearance.
Majeed said: ‘Due to the huge deformity on my face, my whole life had collapsed. ‘I began staying indoors as people made fun of me. ‘It is a huge relief to get the tumour off my face – it is almost like a second birth.’
The operation was carried out by 12 surgeons at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. Dr Subramania Iyer, who oversaw the surgery, said: ‘Despite having several cycles of chemotherapy, the swelling on Majeed’s face continued to enlarge, making his life unbearable. ‘The huge mass was leading to grave complications.
