Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Olalekan Ogundoju for conniving with a fleeing suspect to snatch a Toyota Corolla car from its owner, Ogadinma Ikeagu.

Ikeagu, who used the car with number plate KJA 69 FE, for a ride-hailing service under Uber, was said to have picked the suspects, who posed as passengers, around 11.50pm in the Afrikan Shrine area of Alausa, Ikeja.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said in a statement on Sunday that operatives of the command, who were on crime prevention patrol, came across Ikeagu crying for help because of his stolen car, adding that a chase in the direction of the fleeing suspects led to the arrest of Ogundoju around the Victoria Island area of the state.

Oti said, “On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, around 11.50pm, the anti-crime patrol team of the Maroko Police Station, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Isah Abdulmajid, while on crime prevention patrol, came across one Ogadinma Ikeagu, who was crying for help. He narrated that his Toyota Corolla saloon car, with number plate KJA 69 FE, had just been snatched by two passengers he picked  up at the Afrikan Shrine.

“The DPO took the driver in his patrol vehicle and they drove in the same direction taken by the thieves while escaping with the car. Fortunately for the distressed Uber driver, the police team was able to intercept the car in Victoria Island.

“Although one of the suspected thieves escaped, the team arrested the partner in crime, one Ogundoju Olalekan of No. 14 Shomorin Street, Ifako, Gbagada. He was immediately searched and two wooden prototypes of Berratta pistols were recovered from him.

“On interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime.”

The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had directed that the fleeing member of the syndicate must be arrested and made to face the law.
