Cristiano Ronaldo returned to his native Portugal on Sunday to watch his old club Sporting take on fierce rivals Benfica.
The Juventus forward was joined by his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez at the Jose Alvalade Stadium. The game, known as the Derby de Lisboa, is one of the most highly-anticipated in the country.
Ronaldo, who began his career at Sporting, watched on as his old club were beaten 4-2 in a thriller.
The Portugal captain had been involved in a thriller of his own on Saturday, scoring twice as Juventus drew 3-3 with Parma.
The Italian champions have hit somewhat of a blip in what has been a brilliant campaign, having also been knocked out of the Italian Cup on Wednesday.
‘I’m happy about the goals but not the result. This is football,’ Ronaldo told DAZN following the game. ‘We dropped back in the final few minutes and Parma capitalised on our mistakes.
‘I don’t think the last few results are because of our heavy workload. We’re relaxed and not worried. ‘We’re confident in the ability of this team and its technical quality, as well as the coach and the staff.’
Juve remain on course to win an eighth straight Serie A title, sitting nine points clear at the top of the table.
