A footballer and member of the feeder team of the popular Ibadan-based Shooting Stars Sports Club, aka 3SC, Dayo Oginni, was on Monday arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan zonal office, for alleged involvement in Internet-related offences.Oginni was arrested alongside his brother-in-law, Alabi Okikiola; and his friend, Jonas Okwuwe, at a location on Fortune Estate, in the Ologuneru Olonde area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Their arrest followed a petition from a neighbour, who raised suspicion on the lifestyle of the suspects, who he said did not have any known sources of income.

“Upon receipt of the petition and further discreet investigation, operatives of the commission carried out an early morning raid which led to their arrest on Monday,” a source said.

Further investigation confirmed that Oginni was indeed a member of the popular soccer feeder team, but an official said he had not been attending training for a while.

In their separate statements to the EFCC, Oginni said he was an Ordinary National Diploma Part 1 student at The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Okwuwe claimed to be a Computer Science graduate from the Auchi Polytechnic, while Oginni’s brother-in-law, Okikiola, said he had a Higher National Diploma in Accounting.

Items reportedly recovered from the suspects included laptops and phones of different brands.

The EFCC said, “They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
