A 40-year-old father, Abiodun Fatunmise, on Wednesday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing his 11-month-old baby.
Abiodun allegedly strangled the victim said to be his daughter in the Igboya area of Ile-Ife.
When he was arraigned before the magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi, his plea was not taken.
The police prosecutor, Joseph Adebayo, said Abiodun committed the offence on Monday, May 6, 2019.
Adebayo said the accused strangled Ayomide to death.
He also alleged that the accused conspired with others yet to be apprehended to commit the offence, which contravened sections 316, 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State 2002.
Owolawi did not take the plea of the defendant, citing lack of jurisdiction to try the case.
He directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send it to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The magistrate also ordered that the accused be remanded in the Ile-Ife Prison till the release of legal advice on the matter.
The case was adjourned till Thursday, June 13, for mention.
