Marco Silva sacked by Everton following humiliating 5-2 defeat to Liverpool

Everton have sacked Marco Silva after the club suffered an humiliating 5-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby which left them 18th in the Premier League Table.

 

The decision to sack the Portuguese manager comes just minutes after Everton owner Farhad Moshiri had a meeting this evening with the players and Marco Silva, who won just four of their 15 Premier League matches this season, losing nine. Although, Silva, who joined the club in May 2018, led Everton to an eighth-place finish last season’

 

In a statement issued via the club’s Twitter page, the club announced that: ‘Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the club. 

 

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiti, chairman Bill Kenwright and the board of directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.

 

Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday. 

 

The club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.’

 

David Moyes is expected to make a sensational return to Everton, six years after leaving the club for Manchester United.
