The world’s oldest woman has died at the age of 116 just a month after gaining the title. Jeralean Talley died at home in Michigan after recent treatment for fluid on the lungs in hospital according to her 77-year-old daughter, Thelma Holloway.

She was born May 23, 1899, in Montrose, Georgia, and moved near Detroit, Michigan in 1935.Jeralean became the world’s oldest woman in April when 117-year-old Misao Okawa of Osaka, Japan, died followed by Gertrude Weaver of Camden, Arkansas, at 116. Following Jeralean’s passing, the world’s oldest woman is now thought to be Susannah Mushatt Jones who is 115 years and 348 days old and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

However, the family of Indonesian great-grandmother Anami from Purwakarta, West Java, claim that she is 140, although that has yet to be verified.President Barack Obama sent Jeralean a birthday card in 2013. Her husband passed away 27 years ago at the age of 95.
