Carl Thompson, 33, had been confined to his home for more than a year, relying on NHS carers to wash and feed him. He previously told how the death of his mother (they are pictured together, inset, when Mr Thompson was a teenager) had turned him to binge eating. Mr Thompson also said he had always had a problem with food and was caught raiding his neighbours’ fridges as a toddler (left).
Police confirmed his death in a statement. ‘Kent Police was called at 10:38am on 21 June, to a property, Dover following reports that a man in his 30s had died,’ a spokesman said. ‘Officers do not believe the death to be suspicious.’
