LASU bans students from wearing face caps, dark glasses, mini skirt, earrings to class
The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has directed lecturers to stop students of the institution who dress indecently from class.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the vice-chancellor, to deans, heads of departments, and faculty officers in the varsity.
The circular said the development followed “continuous disregard” for the institution’s dress code by the students.
It added that any student that violates the new directive will be sanctioned.
“The vice-chancellor having noted the continuous disregard for the University’s rules and regulations on indecent dressing by students has directed that: provost, deans, heads of departments and faculty officers should ensure decent dressing among students within their various college/schools/faculties; all lecturers are to deny any indecently dressed students from attending lectures,” it reads.
“In view of the above, and for clarity, the following are modes of dressing which constitute indecent dressing among students of Lagos State University:
“Wearing transparent dresses, mini and skimpy skirts/dresses, and other clothes revealing sensitive parts of the body.
“Wearing tattered, dirty jeans with holes or obscene subliminal messages. Wearing ‘baggy’, ‘saggy’, ‘yansh’, ‘ass level’, and any other form of indecent trousers.
“Wearing of tight-fitting apparels; wearing clothes that reveal sensitive parts of the body. Wearing shirts and tops with obscene, obnoxious, or seductive inscriptions.
“Wearing shirts without buttons, improperly buttoned, rolling of sleeves or flying collar. Wearing of face caps or complete covering of face (very dark glasses).
“Piercing of body and tattooing. Wearing of ear rings and necklace by male students. Wearing of nose ring, very big dropping ear rings and necklaces by students.
“Wearing of distractive knocking shoes like stiletto heels to lecture rooms and the Library. Plaiting, weaving or bonding of hair by male students.
