Brymo Clarifies: ‘My Advances Toward Simi Were Just Artistic Pursuit’
Maverick singer, Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, popularly known as Brymo, has come forward to defend his previous comments regarding a sex-for-music request made to fellow female artist Simisola Kosoko, known as Simi.
Brymo stirred controversy when he shared an audio clip on his social media platform, disclosing that he had turned down a collaboration with Simi because she declined a sexual relationship with him. This revelation did not sit well with Simi’s husband, Adekunle Gold, who cautioned Brymo to “stay away” from his wife and “stop disrespecting” his family.
However, during a recent interview with TVC, Brymo defended his sexual advances towards Simi, describing them as “an artistic pursuit.”
He explained, “One day, I met Adekunle Gold, and he requested a collaboration. When he approached me, I simply said, ‘I’m not interested in any collaborations right now.’ Two weeks later, Simi approached me. At that time, I was unaware that Simi and Adekunle Gold were together. You’re probably familiar with Falz; he took the fall for me. I was the intended target… But I’m a smart guy.”
“When I encountered Simi,” Brymo continued, “I informed her that I would only collaborate if we were also romantically involved to intensify the connection. After all, didn’t she sleep with Adekunle Gold? Isn’t that why their music is so exceptional? But she declined, and I said goodbye, and she left.”
Brymo went on to clarify that he had made similar proposals to other women but emphasized that his intention was not to seek sexual favors in exchange for collaboration. He pointed out that he had worked with numerous female artists without engaging in such conversations, emphasizing that, for him, it was all part of his artistic pursuit.
