Following her time with The Sequence, Angie Stone joined R&B trio Vertical Hold before launching her solo career with Arista Records. Her 1999 debut album, Black Diamond, peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, featuring the hit single No More Rain (In This Cloud). She later joined Clive Davis’ J Records, releasing Mahogany Soul in 2001, which climbed to No. 22 on the Billboard 200.

Over her career, Angie Stone earned three Grammy nominations and achieved a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart in 2023 with her feature on Damon Little’s No Stressing. Expanding into acting, she appeared in the 2002 comedy The Hot Chick and played Big Mama Morton in Broadway’s Chicago.

Her impressive discography includes collaborations with Prince, Macy Gray, Lenny Kravitz, Josh Groban, Ray Charles, Kool & the Gang, Guru, and Dionne Warwick.

The passing of Angie Stone marks a profound loss for the music industry, as fans and fellow artists mourn the iconic singer’s enduring legacy.
