Tinubu Congratulates Obasanjo at 88

President Bola Tinubu extended his birthday wishes to Obasanjo, recognizing him as an extraordinary leader whose contributions have shaped Nigeria’s governance and leadership. Tinubu highlighted Obasanjo’s legacy in promoting national unity, peace, and economic development.

Obasanjo on Colonial Influence in Nigeria

During the event, Obasanjo emphasized the need for Africa to break free from the lingering effects of colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade. He stated:

“Part of our problems in Africa is what I may call residues of the slave trade, slavery, and colonialism. Until we can break ourselves completely away from it, we may not be able to make the progress we should.”

Obasanjo also joked about his name, saying he wished his father had named him Peter, John, or Joseph instead of Matthew, referencing a remark made by AfDB President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

Looking Ahead: Nigeria’s Path to Greatness

As Nigeria grapples with economic and political challenges, Obasanjo remains hopeful, urging leaders to demonstrate selflessness and strong political will to steer the country towards prosperity.

His message at his 88th birthday celebration serves as a call to action for Nigerians to embrace duty, responsibility, and optimism in shaping the nation’s future.
