Popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Ahmed Ololade, widely known as Asake, has responded to allegations of neglect made by his father, Fatai Odunsi.

In a viral video circulating online, Odunsi accused his son of abandonment, revealing that he has been battling a stroke since 2022. The elderly man claimed that Asake had ignored his calls despite his deteriorating health and even sought financial assistance from the public.

Speaking in the video, Odunsi said:
“I am the father of Asake, the singer. The last time I saw him was when this happened to me on March 29, 2022. He does not pick up my calls anymore, and now I have become tired. I have been searching for my brother and just recently met with him.”

Asake Responds with Cryptic Message

Reacting to the controversy, Asake took to social media on Friday, dropping a cryptic message about his struggles.

“You can’t please everyone, you can’t please the world. But whatever you do, do it for God,” he wrote.

In a video where he sang in Yoruba, the singer added:
“My own father wants to cajole me. I have sent so much money to him. I have struggled for many years, but they want to make me tired of life.”

Asake’s Musical Achievements

Despite the family controversy, Asake remains one of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeat stars. His debut album, ‘Mr. Money with the Vibe’, released in September 2022, broke records for the biggest opening day for an African album on Apple Music at the time. It also debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the highest-charting Nigerian debut album in history.
