I don’t know how to manage money – Actor Dele Odule

Veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule has shared candid insights into why he believes he is not a successful movie producer. Known for his stellar performances in the Yoruba film industry, Odule revealed that his lack of financial management skills is a major reason he prefers acting to film production.

In a recent interview with Oyinmomo, the award-winning actor explained that producing movies requires a strong grasp of money management—something he admits he struggles with. According to Odule, movie production is a business that demands precision, planning, and the ability to generate profit, all of which are outside his comfort zone.

“I’m not good at producing. I’ve never been a good producer. A good producer must know how to manage money, and I don’t know how to do that,” Odule confessed.

He further disclosed that although he has produced around 10 films over the years, he is unsure whether they were profitable. He even admitted that he does not know the whereabouts of the master copies of those movies, further highlighting his challenges in the production space.

“To be a good producer, you need to understand money management because production is a commercial venture,” he said. “You need to be able to make a profit from the investment, but I’m not good at that. That’s why I prefer acting—it’s where I excel.”

Despite these shortcomings, Odule expressed interest in producing high-quality films for cinema or streaming platforms like Netflix if given the right opportunity.

“Even though I’m not great at producing, if I get the opportunity, I’d love to produce a film for Netflix or the cinema. I wouldn’t do anything less than that,” he added.

In the same interview, the Nollywood veteran also spoke about being blacklisted in the film industry for two years. Odule claimed he was sidelined because some industry players saw him as a threat.

“I have been blacklisted from acting for two years. I feel it happened because I was becoming a threat, and they tried to deal with me by blackmailing me,” he said.

Dele Odule’s revelations offer a rare glimpse into the challenges faced by actors who try to transition into production, as well as the politics within the Nollywood industry.
