Peter Obi has shared shocking details about the demolition of his younger brother’s company property in Lagos, sparking outrage and questions about the rule of law in Nigeria.
In a post shared alongside photos of the demolished building, Obi narrated how he received a distress call from his youngest brother about an invasion on their property in Lagos. Rushing in from Abuja, he arrived to find the building — owned by the company for over 10 years — already reduced to rubble.
According to Obi, the group responsible claimed they had a court judgment. But when he requested to see the documents, it turned out the judgment was against “an unknown person and squatters” — not the company that owned the property.
“I asked for a demolition order or permit, and there was none,” Obi said. “How do you sue an unknown person? How does a court issue a judgment in such a farce of a case?”
Obi ended his post with a painful remark: “Nobody could remove anything. We are finished in this country.”
The incident has once again raised concerns over land grabbing, abuse of judicial processes, and unlawful demolitions in Nigeria.
