Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has awarded full scholarships to three Nigerian teenage girls who emerged victorious at the TeenEagle Global finals, a prestigious international academic competition focused on English language and communication.
The recipients — Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukaiya Mohammed Fema, and Khadija Kashim Kalli — have received a life-changing opportunity courtesy of the Atiku Abubakar Foundation (AAF).
The scholarship package covers the remainder of their secondary education and provides full university tuition at any institution of their choice.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, the foundation emphasized its commitment to supporting the girls throughout their academic journey. “This isn’t just an offer for a few months of tuition; it’s a promise to walk with them through every step of their academic journey,” a representative of the AAF stated.
Atiku, a long-time advocate for education in Nigeria, especially for girls and marginalized communities, explained the motivation behind the scholarships:
“When you invest in the education of a girl child, you are invariably investing in the education of a prospective family and community.”
The TeenEagle Global finals is renowned for celebrating academic excellence in English, and the outstanding performance of these three Nigerian girls has brought pride to the country.
Education advocates have praised Atiku’s gesture, calling it a model of philanthropic impact and a potential blueprint for improving Nigeria’s education sector, especially in promoting girls’ access to quality education.
The Atiku Abubakar Foundation reiterated its mission to create pathways for talented Nigerian youth to thrive academically, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
