FG Slams KWAM 1 with Six-Month Flight Ban Over Airport Misconduct

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has imposed a six-month flight ban on Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, over a recent incident involving unruly behavior at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to the NCAA, the altercation occurred when KWAM 1 allegedly spilled alcohol on aviation staff after they attempted to inspect the contents of a flask he intended to take onboard a Value Jet flight.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, August 7, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, confirmed that disciplinary action was already in motion against the artist.

“As we speak, the passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months flying in Nigeria. Aviation rules are made for everybody, for the protection of everybody,” Achimugu stated.

He added that aviation laws apply universally, regardless of an individual’s status or public profile.

Legal Proceedings Underway

In addition to the flight ban, the NCAA has formally reached out to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), requesting that legal proceedings be initiated against KWAM 1 for his disruptive conduct at the airport.

Achimugu further assured the public that the case would be treated with full seriousness:

“We will do everything we can to get to the root of it. Everybody who needs to be punished or sanctioned will receive justice.”

The six-month flight suspension serves as a strong reminder that Nigeria’s aviation rules apply to all, and that passenger safety and order at the nation’s airports remain a top priority.
