According to the Times of Malta, five people have died after a plane believed to be carrying EU border officials crashed and exploded into a ball of flames in Malta. The light aircraft crashed shortly after taking-off from the runway at Malta Airport in Luqa at around 5.30am on Monday. Sadly, there were no survivors.

One witness told the Times of Malta how they saw the plane, which was heading for Misrata in Libya, take-off and rise before it tipped onto its right side ‘and went straight down into the ground.’ Emergency services are on the scene and rescuers are searching the burning wreckage for any survivors.
