The police have dismissed two wardens, Musa Muktari and Shuaibu Suleman, attached to Wuse Police Division, Federal Capital Territory Command for receiving N15,000 bribe from a motorist.The two men were dismissed from service with immediate effect for corrupt practice following an orderly room trial at the Provost Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit said this in a bulletin on Tuesday by the officer-in-charge, Abayomi Shogunle, an assistant commissioner of police.
He stated that the motorist, (name withheld) lodged a complaint to the PCRRU at Force Headquarters, Abuja that he was accosted by Muktari and Suleman on May 29, 2017 and accused of beating the traffic light.
The motorist was said to have reported that the wardens demanded bribe before they would release him, adding that he was forced to make a withdrawal of N15,000 from an Automated Teller Machine which he gave to the traffic wardens.
He also stated that one of the wardens forgot his mobile phone in his car.
The PCRRU said it immediately launched an investigation and both traffic wardens where identified and apprehended.
“The sum of N15,000 earlier extorted from the complainant was recovered from both wardens (N7,500 each as money was already shared),” it added.
The unit said that the wardens were subsequently defaulted and referred to the Force Provost Marshal FHQ Abuja for orderly room trial during which all witnesses were called, exhibits were presented and the wardens were heard.Shogunle said, “The Adjudicating officer found both defaulters guilty as charged and recommended punishment of dismissal from service.
