Baby Attacked by Neighbor’s Pet Snake

A one year old baby was nearly killed in his sleep by an escaped ball python. Devin Winans, William’s father, just happened to check on the baby after hearing an unusual amount of movement over the baby monitor. The baby wasn’t crying or anything, but when the father entered the dark bedroom, and reached into the crib, he felt something “really slimy.”

“I immediately turned the light on and saw the snake, a ball python, wrapped around his foot, constricting it, and trying to eat his foot,” he said in an interview with ABC News.
The father immediately pulled the snake off his son and rushed the baby to the hospital, where he was treated for the bite on his foot.
According to police, the escaped snake belonged to the tenant of a neighboring apartment. The neighbor has been cited for not having the snake properly secured.
Adult ball pythons are typically 90–120 cm (3.0–3.9 ft) in length, but can reach 152–182 cm (4.99–5.97 ft).
Escaped snakes attacking children is nothing new. In 2009, a two year old girl was killed by a pet Burmese python that had escaped from its aquarium.
