The News Agency of Nigeria reports that embattled reggae star, Majek Fashek, on Monday, admitted his addiction to alcohol and drugs, and expressed hope that he would get the best from a rehabilitation process he is currently undergoing. He said:

“People should stop the use of alcohol and drugs because being drunk will end up destroying your career and your plans for the future. Coming to the rehab is not a bad idea because I realised that I am addicted to alcohol and it was beginning to affect my output and what I enjoy doing and decided to seek for help.

“I am not the first singer or person that will go to a rehab. Most renowned celebrities we know today go to rehabilitation centres to cool their heads.”

Fashek, however, dismissed the rumour that he was deported from the United States. He said that he was just fighting to protect the legacy of his children and he also needed peace for his consciousness. He enjoined those struggling with any form of addiction to always seek assistance.

Consultant and Psychiatrist to Fashek, Dr Vincent Udenze, said that his rehabilitation would take a while, adding that it would be a long journey.

“Rehabilitation is a long-term journey. Even if he leaves the centre and goes home, he is still on that journey and that is how we conceptualise rehabilitation,” he said.

It was gathered that Fashek had volunteered sponsors that include Charlie Boy, businessman Ayiri Emami and one of the musician’s acolytes, Monica Swaida.
