Jonathan Has Right To Visit Aso Rock Villa Anytime – Presidency

For the second time since he left office on May 29, former president Goodluck Jonathan yesterday visited his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting which held behind closed doors at the New Banquet Hall of the State House lasted barely ten minutes. Jonathan arrived at about 2.00pm and left at 2.13pm after the meeting.

Though the reason for his visit was not disclosed. While it is believed that Jonathan came to brief the president on the outcome of the Tanzania election in which he played a role as the leader of Commonwealth Election Observer Group to observe the conduct of the election, there are, however, feelers that the former president came to seek an understanding with the present government to halt the criticism against his government.

This is predicated on the fact that the former president’s visit came on a day President Buhari insisted that he would not stop talking about the “evils” of the Jonathan and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP government. It will also be recalled that Jonathan paid a similar visit to the villa recently when criticism against his government heightened.

Following enquiries made to the presidency on the agenda of the meeting between Jonathan and Buhari, presidential spokesperson, Mr. Femi Adesina told Vanguard on phone that Jonathan could call at the villa at will.

“He has the right to visit the villa anytime as a former president,” Adesina said.
