At a press briefing in Abuja Sen. Ita Enang, the special adviser to the president in the Senate, described the process of passing a bill into a law as expeditious and laudable. He further praised all the lawmakers for working hard to ensure the passage of the carefully-crafted budget. He said:

“I followed the entire process and I have seen the industry that has been exhibited by the senators. I want to say that we appreciate particularly the fact that in the course of consideration, the committee chairmen, the committee members and the chairmen of appropriation committees were in constant touch.”

The legislature were also commended for approving the concerted version of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) — the parameter for passing the budget. Enang also praised the local media for extensive coverage of the process.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari presented the national budget before a joint session of the National Assembly on December 22 last year. However, the main document has become the centre of controversy as was reported missing from the Senate premises in January.
