According to The Sun, disgraced footballer Adam Johnson has reportedly landed his first job in prison since being jailed for sex offences – swapping his £60,000-a-week player’s salary for a £20-a-week role as a hairdresser. The 28-year-old, who earned £60,000 at Sunderland before his conviction, is said to be working six days a week at Moorland Prison near Hatfield Woodhouse in South Yorkshire cutting inmates’ hair.

The ex-England winger, who recently moved from Armley Prison in Leeds to the Category C jail, is allegedly ‘trying to keep his head down’ by throwing himself into the new role and a training course.

However, his new paid position has reportedly irked some fellow inmates, who are said to be annoyed by the ‘cushy’ role in which he ‘doesn’t work too hard’ and gets two hours off for lunch. A source said:

‘Johnson is trying to keep his head down and avoid problems with other inmates. Some are slightly annoyed because he has landed quite a cushy job, does not have to work too hard and even gets two hours off for lunch.
