A mum who had suffered the tragedy of losing a son died from a seizure just seven days after giving birth to her long-awaited daughter.Amy Poole, 28, was overjoyed when daughter , Lainey, arrived safely, weighing barely 5lb, on Sunday, May 8.But that joy turned to heartbreak for her family last weekend when Miss Poole died. She was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary after gasping for breath but died hours later.Six years earlier she’d lost her three-year-old son, Michael, who died after a house fire that left him brain damaged.
Miss Poole’s family said she suffered a massive seizure, thought to be linked to a blood clot and possibly linked to childbirth.”Amy was a top mum,” said Miss Poole’s partner, Kevin Hall, 34, who is now left to bring up their newborn daughter and their son Archie, seven, alone in Hull, east Yorkshire.
Miss Poole’s eldest son, Jeramia, 11, from a past relationship, is being cared for by her parents, Tim and Julie Poole, at their home in north Hull.
“She was so pleased we finally had a little girl – a long-awaited sister for Jeramia and Archie,” Mr Hall said, explaining how no one could have imagined how seriously ill she was.I woke up at 7am on Sunday and saw Amy cuddling Lainey as she fed her,” he said. “But then later on she was sick.Amy said she had a pain in her neck and she was gasping for breath.I knew something was wrong, so I called for an ambulance. Amy just put it down to childbirth.”
Miss Poole’s father, Tim, went to see her on the ward.
Mr Hall said: “Tim parked in a 30-minute bay – he thought Amy would be out straight away. We all did.
“She had not long been drinking a cup of tea. But then, all of a sudden, as she was being examined, she had some sort of seizure.”
Moments later, Mr Hall was told her heart had stopped beating.
“I was sat in the waiting room,” he said. “A doctor came in and said they were working on her.
“They must have been working for up to an hour, trying to get her heart working again, but they couldn’t.”
Mr Hall recalled the moment he was told his partner could not be saved.
“Everything went through my mind,” he said. “My children, everything. Amy was my world.”
