Oscar Pistorius has been jailed for six years for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp this morning.The Olympic and Paralympic icon repeatedly shot the 29-year-old model after she barricaded herself in the bathroom of his home in Pretoria on February 2013.He appeared at North Gauteng High Court this morning after a three-and-a-half year legal battle.

Pistorius will serve “between half and two thirds of the sentence” before he can apply for parole, said Andrew Fawcett, Pistorius’ instructing attorney.More reaction continues to come in following the six-year sentence Pistorius was given this morning.

Just as Reeva’s Barry said he hoped there would be no appeal, Pistorius’ defence has just released an official statement.They have confirmed that they will not lodge an appeal.After the sentence, Pistorius was taken straight down to the cells.
