The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to seek advice from experts within and outside the government to proffer solutions to the economic crisis in the country. Sanusi, who spoke during the week at the Government House in Kano, asked the President to engage forward thinking individuals to bail the country from the current recession. He also urged wealthy Nigerians to assist the under-privileged.

The monarch said Nigerians, irrespective of their religious affiliations and political inclinations, should intensify prayers for the economic growth of the country. Sanusi’s advice came on the heels of a comment by a Catholic Bishop, Reverend Hassan Kukah, who asked the President to stop blaming Nigeria’s woes on past administrations and work to get the economy back on track.

Also, the cleric recalled that the immediate past Goodluck Jonathan’s administration left some enviable landmarks. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Governors Forum has expressed support for President Buhari’s economic plan to tackle the current economic recession. This was part of resolutions reached at the extraordinary meeting of the NGF held at the old Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.

Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, NGF Chairman and Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, said:

“The governors resolved with a commitment to encourage the Federal Government to continue along the line to bring the country out of recession.”

He said the governors agreed that insurgency must be treated as a matter of national emergency. According to him, the forum promised to activate the states task force on polio or the primary health care, which is to be led by the deputy governors.

Yari said the governors expressed their commitment to paying their counterpart funding towards polio eradication. He said the governors would team up with the Federal Ministry of Health in the fight against Lassa fever.
