Alexis Sanchez celebrates scoring his team's fourth goal

Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez, appeared via a video link to a court in Barcelona in a tax case which could cost him a £1m fine. Sanchez has admitted defrauding Spanish tax authorities of £900,000 from image rights during his time at Barcelona. Sanchez has repaid the money but still faces charges which have the threat of a jail sentence as the Spanish authorities look to clamp down on footballers and tax schemes.

Chile forward Sanchez set up a Maltese company called Numidia Trading in a tax avoidance scheme to stop paying on his image rights deals between 2012 and 2013.

Sanchez is expected to reach an agreement with the authorities on a fine to stop the case going any further and that amount could reach seven figures.

He is the latest big star to be implicated in several cases in Spain with Lionel Messi, Neymar, Dani Alves and Javier Mascherano among others to have faced charges.
