Real Madrid have broken Barcelona’s Spanish record by extending their unbeaten streak to 40 games in the most dramatic fashion. Zinedine Zidane’s side drew 3-3 with Sevilla in the Copa del Rey, but were trailing 3-1 with just minutes to go.

However Sergio Ramos, so often the club’s saviour, scored a panenka penalty on 83 minutes before substitute Karim Benzema netted the equaliser in extra-time.

With Real Madrid already holding a 3-0 advantage from the first-leg of the Round of 16 tie, Zidane opted to rest a number of his star players, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric, while Benzema was on the bench.

The ploy looked to be the ending of their incredible run. An own goal from Danilo put Sevilla ahead before Marco Asensio equalised for Real Madrid. Former Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic, making his debut for Sevilla, made it 2-1 to Sevilla before Vicente Iborra added another for the hosts.

But then Ramos and Benzema popped up to cement their legendary status at Real Madrid just a little more.
