Arsene Wenger has turned down a huge £30million-a-year offer to move to China  which is double what Pep Guardiola is on at Manchester City. The Arsenal manager was sounded out with an offer to make him the highest paid manager in world football with his long-term future at the Gunners in serious doubt.

The 67-year-old Frenchman has had several approaches since revealing that he is determined to carry on managing next season. He is clearly determined to stay at the highest level in Europe — whether or not that is at Arsenal. Wenger, whose current £8m-a-year deal expires this summer, knows there is a new two-year contract on the table for him to stay at the Emirates.

But there is serious doubt among the hierarchy at the club over whether he will stay, and Arsenal have already made discreet enquiries about potential replacements. Wenger could yet stay on though, with most of the potential successors struggling at their current clubs.
