Anja Ringgren Loven found a malnourished little boy starving and alone after his parents abandoned him as a “witch” is a picture of health as he starts school. She found the boy, now called Hope, in Nigeria, where he had wandered alone and unclad for eight months, surviving on scraps.
The picture of Anja giving him water went viral and to mark three-year-old Hope’s first day at school this week, Danish aid worker Anja re-created the image, showing he has blossomed at the orphanage she runs with husband David.
Well-wishers sent £1million to Anja’s charity, the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation, after the first shocking photo of Hope touched hearts all over the world.
