Britain’s Olympic high jump silver medallist Germaine Mason has died after a motorcyle crash in Jamaica. Mason, 34, who won silver at the 2008 Beijing Games, is thought to have been on his way back from a party in Kingston, Jamaica, in the early hours of Thursday morning when his bike came off the road.

Usain Bolt, one of Mason’s close friends, and fellow Jamaican sprinter Michael Frater were among the first on the scene after hearing of the news.
Jamaican police confirmed Mason’s death with Jessica Ennis-Hill and Denise Lewis among those to pay tribute to their former British team-mate.
Mason, who has a five-year-old son, trained with the Stephen Francis-coached MVP Track Club. He then moved on to train with Great Britain to prepare for the 2008 games
