10-year-old Colorado girl committed suicide after falling victim to “bullycide,” choosing to take her life after video of her being bullied was posted on social media.
Ashawnty Davis died Wednesday after spending almost two weeks in hospital on life support for trying to hang herself, local Fox 31 reports.The fifth-grader recently got involved in an after-school fight at Sunrise Elementary School in October after she tried to confront her bully, her parents told reporters. The fight was videotaped and someone uploaded it to the Musical.ly app. “I saw my daughter was scared,” said Latoshia Harris, Ashawnty’s mother.

The video apparently devastated Ashawnty, and she was bullied even more after it was posted. Two weeks later, she tried to commit suicide.

“My daughter came home two weeks later and hanged herself in the closet,” Harris said.

“We do not tolerate bullying of any kind in our schools and we have a comprehensive bullying prevention program in place at all of our schools,” Cherry Creek School District said in a statement. “The safety and wellbeing of students is our highest priority and we strive every today to ensure schools are safe, welcoming and supportive places that support learning.”
