The 71st British Academy Film Awards took place tonight (Sunday February 18) at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The ceremony began around 7pm tonight. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri walked away with the Best Film prize and a leading five wins overall at the BAFTA Awards tonight at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Why are stars wearing black to the Baftas?
Following a similar protest at the Golden Globes, guests at the Baftas have been asked to wear black as a symbol of solidarity with the #TimesUp campaign, aimed at stamping out sexual harassment. The campaign was launched following a recent spate of sexual harassment scandals in the film industry, sparked by a New York Times investigation into reports of sexual misconduct by disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.
Most of this year’s attendees have followed the all-black dress code, though Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, arrived at the ceremony wearing a green dress with black edging.
