A woman who was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday, January 27, 2018 has not been identified by any of her relatives.

The victim, who has been receiving treatment at the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Old Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, was said to have been rescued by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service at about 1pm at the Adeniji end of the bridge.A source in the hospital told PUNCH Metro that the victim, who had remained unconscious since she was brought to the centre, had not been identified.

The source noted that her relatives might not know her whereabouts and might have been looking for her. When our correspondent entered the medical centre, the woman, who appeared to be in her mid-20s, had bruises all over her body, including her scalp. She also had a ring on her ring finger, which suggested that she was either engaged or married.

PUNCH Metro observed that the victim screamed occasionally, as she writhed in pain on the hospital bed.

The source noted that the victim was trying to cross from one side of the bridge to the other when she was hit.

“She has been unconscious and she has not been able to talk. So, till now we don’t know her name, age or have any information that we can use to trace her relatives because nothing was found on her,” she said.

When asked what the complications could be, the source said even though her medical history was unknown, brain injuries could not be ruled out.

“We have yet to ascertain what is happening, but with the bruises on her scalp, she could have suffered some brain injuries, and the pain centre is located in the brain.

“We hope the relatives would show up because she doesn’t look like a destitute; she looks normal,” she added.

Efforts to get the authorities of the centre to comment proved abortive as all the officials approached by our correspondent declined comment.
