In his address, while speaking at the commissioning of a comprehensive special school in Nassarawa state yesterday, President Buhari touched on the various herdsmen and farmers attacks witnessed in various parts of the country. He sympathized with victims of the attacks and urged them not to engage in reprisals.

He reassured the people of North Central that the Federal Government have put in place, adequate measures, to end the crisis and maintain law and order.

”I also want to assure the people of the north central and indeed all Nigerians that the federal government is working day night to ensure peace and stability returns. We have deployed additional resources to all the affected areas to maintain law and order. I appeal to all Nigerians to refrain from reprisal attacks. The security agencies have standing order to arrest and prosecute any and all persons found with illegal arms. I will once again express my condolences and sympathy to all the affected victims of these barbaric acts,’’ he said.

You will recall that over 70 people were killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on farmers in Logo and Guma communities in Benue state on January 1st. There have since been two reprisal attacks, one that led to the burning to death of seven Fulani men in Gboko, last week. Three more were killed recently.
