Weinstein Accusers Introduce Emotional Me Too Segment At Oscars

Salma Hayek, Ashley Judd and Annabella Sciorra introduced an emotional ‘me too’ segment at the 2018 Oscars that honoured ‘equality, diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality’.

The three found themselves at times in tears as they discussed finding their voices. This year many spoke their truth and the journey ahead is long but slowly a new path has emerged,’ said Annabella.

‘This entire fall, the Me Too, the Times Up movements, everyone is getting a voice to express something that has been happening forever, not just Hollywood but all walks of life,’ began Mira Sorvino before clips began from some of the Oscar-nominated films this year which represent the change occurin g in Hollywood, including Get Out, Strong Island, Mudbound, and Lady Bird. ‘All the movies I loved were directed by men and that seemed like a prerequisite,’ said Greta Gerwig in the clip, before Kumail Nanjiani added: ‘Some of my favourite movies were by straight white dudes about straight white dudes. ‘Now straight white dudes can watch movies starring me and you relate to that, it’s not that hard, I’ve done it my whole life.’

‘It’s the possibility of the status quo not having to be the status quo any longer,’ added Mira as Ava DuVernay added that movies can help to ‘deconstruct the way people see themselves’.
