A woman suspected to have shot and injured three YouTube workers has been identified as a vegan body builder Nasim Aghdam. The 39-year-old from San Diego had previously taken part in a number of protests including one in 2009 in which she said ‘for me, animal rights equal human rights’.

She also previously spoke out about YouTube’s policy accusing them of censorship, being dictatorial in their policies and not paying her. Authorities have said that they are treating the case as a domestic dispute. In 2009, she attended a protest by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) against the use of pigs in military trauma training. She dressed in a wig and jeans with drops of painted ‘blood’ on them, holding a plastic sword at the demonstration outside the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base.

Aghdam is said to have fired 30 to 40 shots inside the YouTube campus before turning her gun on herself. She had a significant presence online but felt that her work had been discriminated and filtered

A 36-year-old man was in critical condition, a 32-year-old woman was in serious condition and a 27-year-old woman was in fair condition.
