A man watched as his car was engulfed by lava. More than 1,700 people have been evacuated from their homes after the Kilauea volcano erupted on Thursday, spewing molten rocks and dangerous levels of poisonous gases into the air.
Incredible footage has captured the moment the white Mustang left at the side of road bursts into flames after a wall of slow-moving lava hits it, before becoming entirely consumed by it. Emergency crews are poised to evacuate more people from their homes as fissures keep spreading from the erupting volcano which has burnt down 35 structures. Lava has crept into neighbourhoods on Big Island and two new cracks in the earth have opened up in Leilani Estates.
