Meghan Markle wore Princess Diana’s ring as the newlyweds celebrated their marriage at their evening reception. A huge emerald-cut cocktail ring could be spotted on the bride’s finger as she and Prince Harry waved to onlookers from their Jaguar.
The piece is likely a gift from her new husband as his mother left her jewellery collection to her sons Harry and William’s ‘future wives’. In a ‘letter of wishes’, Diana said: ‘I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it. ‘I leave the exact division of the jewellery to your discretion.’
Diana was pictured wearing the blue ring to an auction of her own wardrobe in 1997. The piece is part of a set, including a matching bracelet and earrings, but it’s unknown if she received the rest.
Both Meghan and Kate’s engagement rings have diamonds from Diana’s collection. It is believed that Prince William gave Kate his mother’s sapphire and diamond earrings on their big day in 2011. They were pictured as they climbed into a 1968 Jaguar E-Type with the registration E190518 – the date of their wedding.
