Mohamed Salah insists his injury rehabilitation is ‘going well’ as he bids to make himself available for the World Cup. Egypt face Uruguay on June 15 in their first group game in Russia and Salah, 25, was expected to be absent. The forward, of course, suffered a shoulder injury during last month’s Champions League final, leaving the field in tears after just 30 minutes.

In his absence, Liverpool were beaten 3-1 as Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid won a third successive Champions League title. Salah sat out of Egypt’s training session on Sunday but did come out onto the pitch to greet fans eager to catch a glimpse of the PFA Player of the Year. Following the session, Salah provided a promising update on his fitness, telling reporters: ‘I’m excited. I am preparing in a very good way for the Uruguay match and things are going well.
